Terms of Service

Effective date: July 30, 2026 · Last updated: July 30, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Family Inventory, including familyinventory.com and the related Family Inventory web application (collectively, the “Service”).

The Service is operated by Family Inventory LLC (“Family Inventory,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

By creating an account, accepting an invitation, purchasing a subscription, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into a binding agreement to create or use a Family Inventory account.

The Service is intended for personal and family use. It is not directed to children under 13, and children may not create accounts.

If you use the Service on behalf of another person or organization, you represent that you have authority to accept these Terms on their behalf.

2. Accounts and account security

You must provide accurate account information and keep your email address current.

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your password
  • Using reasonable security measures to protect your account
  • Activities that occur through your account
  • Promptly notifying us if you suspect unauthorized access

You may not share login credentials in a way that bypasses household invitations or roles.

We may require email confirmation, password resets, or other security steps to protect accounts and household content.

3. Households, members, and roles

Family Inventory organizes content into private households.

A household may include the following roles:

Household Manager

The Household Manager controls the household, manages invitations and roles, controls billing, and may request deletion of the household.

Contributor

A Contributor may add, edit, and delete household entries as permitted by the Service.

Viewer

A Viewer may view household content but may not modify it.

The Household Manager is responsible for deciding whom to invite and what role each person receives.

Members may be removed or have their roles changed. Removal from a household ends that person’s access but does not automatically delete household content.

Family Inventory is not responsible for family disputes, ownership disputes, inheritance disputes, or disagreements about who should control or access a household.

Household ownership transfers, when available, may require support review and identity verification.

4. User content

“User Content” includes information uploaded, recorded, created, or submitted through the Service, including:

  • Heirloom and valuable descriptions
  • Recipes
  • Memories and stories
  • Notes
  • Room names
  • Photos
  • Voice recordings
  • Videos
  • Household and profile names
  • Invitation and support information

You retain ownership of your User Content.

You grant Family Inventory a limited, nonexclusive, worldwide license to host, store, reproduce, process, transcode, display, transmit, and back up User Content solely as reasonably necessary to:

  • Operate and improve the Service
  • Make content available to authorized household members
  • Provide technical support
  • Protect the Service and its users
  • Comply with applicable law

This license ends when the content is permanently deleted from our active systems, except to the extent copies remain temporarily in backups, logs, or records we are legally required to retain.

You represent that:

  • You have the right to upload and share the User Content
  • Your User Content does not violate another person’s privacy, intellectual-property, publicity, or other rights
  • You have appropriate permission before uploading sensitive information, photos, audio, or video involving another person, including a minor

Family Inventory does not claim ownership of your family stories, photographs, recordings, recipes, or other User Content.

5. Acceptable use

You may not use the Service to:

  • Violate any law
  • Upload content you do not have the right to use
  • Infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights
  • Harass, threaten, exploit, impersonate, or harm another person
  • Upload malware, malicious code, or harmful files
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to another account or household
  • Circumvent account, household, billing, storage, or security limitations
  • Interfere with the operation of the Service
  • Use automated tools to scrape, extract, or overload the Service
  • Resell or commercially exploit the Service without written permission
  • Store content involving child sexual abuse, nonconsensual intimate material, or other unlawful exploitation

We may remove content, restrict access, suspend accounts, preserve evidence, or report activity when reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, protect users, or comply with law.

6. Free and paid plans

Family Inventory may offer Free, Paid, Lifetime, Gift, or Complimentary access.

Current features, prices, limits, and plan descriptions are shown in the Service or on the Family Inventory website.

The Free plan currently permits up to five household entries.

Paid subscriptions currently offer monthly and annual billing options and expanded entry access.

Technical limits may apply to file sizes, recording lengths, media types, storage, and other features even when a plan is described as allowing unlimited entries.

We may change plan features or limits prospectively. We will provide reasonable notice before a material change that negatively affects an existing paid subscription.

7. Payments and automatic renewal

Paid subscriptions are processed by Stripe or another disclosed payment processor.

By purchasing a subscription, you authorize the applicable recurring charge, plus taxes where required.

Monthly subscriptions renew each month.

Annual subscriptions renew each year.

Your subscription continues until canceled.

You are responsible for keeping your billing information current.

Except where required by law or expressly stated otherwise:

  • Subscription charges are nonrefundable
  • Partial billing periods are not refunded
  • Credits or refunds issued by Family Inventory are discretionary and do not create an obligation to provide future refunds

We may change prices for future billing periods after providing reasonable notice.

8. Cancellation, payment failure, and limited access

You may cancel a paid subscription through the available billing-management tools.

Unless otherwise stated, cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period. You retain paid access through that date.

If a payment fails, Family Inventory may provide a grace period and may later limit household access.

After paid access ends:

  • The household may move to a limited or Free-style access state
  • Only a limited number of entries may remain fully accessible
  • Other retained entries may be locked until paid access resumes
  • Members may lose access to paid features

Our current policy is not to automatically erase household content solely because a subscription was canceled or payment failed. This allows a household to return and restore access later.

However:

  • This is a retention policy, not a guarantee of permanent or perpetual storage
  • We may change retention practices prospectively with reasonable notice
  • Content may be deleted in response to an authorized deletion request, legal obligation, security issue, prohibited use, or discontinuation of the Service

Users should not rely on Family Inventory as their only copy of irreplaceable content.

9. Account and household deletion

A user may request deletion of their account through the Service.

A Household Manager may request deletion of the household.

Deletion requests are generally reviewed and completed within 5–10 business days.

Account or household deletion is permanent once completed.

Household deletion may remove entries, photos, recordings, videos, memberships, invitations, and other household information for every member.

Before requesting deletion, users are responsible for downloading any available content they wish to keep.

We may retain limited records after deletion when reasonably necessary for:

  • Fraud prevention
  • Security
  • Billing and tax records
  • Legal compliance
  • Dispute resolution
  • Enforcement of these Terms

10. Third-party services

The Service depends on third-party providers for functions such as:

  • Authentication
  • Database and file storage
  • Hosting
  • Email delivery
  • Payment processing

Those providers may have their own terms and privacy policies.

Stripe processes payment-card information. Family Inventory does not store full payment-card numbers.

We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control, but we select and use providers to support operation of the Service.

11. Family Inventory is not an appraisal or professional service

Family Inventory is an organizational and storytelling tool.

It does not provide:

  • Appraisals
  • Valuations
  • Proof of ownership
  • Insurance coverage
  • Estate planning
  • Legal advice
  • Tax advice
  • Financial advice
  • Authentication of antiques, heirlooms, collectibles, or valuables

Information stored in Family Inventory may not satisfy the documentation requirements of an insurer, court, tax authority, estate, or other institution.

Users should consult qualified professionals when professional advice or formal documentation is needed.

12. Service availability and changes

We work to keep the Service reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

The Service may be unavailable because of:

  • Maintenance
  • Updates
  • Provider outages
  • Security incidents
  • Internet or device issues
  • Events outside our reasonable control

We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features.

If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice and a reasonable opportunity to retrieve available content when feasible.

13. Intellectual property

The Service, excluding User Content, is owned by Family Inventory LLC or its licensors.

This includes the Family Inventory name, branding, design, software, interface, documentation, and original website content.

These Terms do not transfer ownership of Family Inventory intellectual property.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from the Service except where applicable law expressly permits it.

14. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time.

We may suspend or terminate access when reasonably necessary because of:

  • A material violation of these Terms
  • Fraud or abuse
  • Security risk
  • Nonpayment
  • Legal requirements
  • Harm to another person, the Service, or a provider

When appropriate, we will attempt to provide notice and an opportunity to correct the issue.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination will remain effective, including provisions concerning ownership, payment obligations, disclaimers, liability, and disputes.

15. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.”

FAMILY INVENTORY DISCLAIMS WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AVAILABILITY, AND DATA PRESERVATION.

WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT:

  • THE SERVICE WILL ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE
  • USER CONTENT WILL NEVER BE LOST OR DAMAGED
  • INFORMATION ENTERED BY USERS IS ACCURATE
  • THE SERVICE WILL MEET INSURANCE, LEGAL, TAX, ESTATE, OR APPRAISAL REQUIREMENTS

Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or right that cannot legally be excluded.

16. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FAMILY INVENTORY LLC AND ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FAMILY INVENTORY’S TOTAL LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF:

  • THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO FAMILY INVENTORY DURING THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM; OR
  • $100

These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

17. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Family Inventory LLC and its owners, officers, employees, and contractors from claims, losses, liabilities, and expenses arising from:

  • Your User Content
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of another person’s rights
  • Your misuse of the Service
  • People you invite to a household through your account or authority

This obligation does not apply to the extent a claim results from Family Inventory’s own unlawful conduct.

18. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oklahoma, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except to the extent the laws of your state or country provide rights that cannot legally be waived.

Before filing a legal claim, you and Family Inventory agree to make a good-faith effort to resolve the issue informally by contacting support@familyinventory.com.

Any court proceeding must be brought in a state or federal court with jurisdiction in Oklahoma, unless applicable consumer law permits or requires otherwise.

Nothing in these Terms prevents either party from seeking relief in small-claims court when eligible.

19. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service changes.

The updated Terms will show a new “Last updated” date.

If a change is material, we may provide additional notice through the Service or by email.

Continued use of the Service after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms, except where applicable law requires additional consent.
